NEAP and RITQ staff during the alignment meeting for the implementation of DepEd’s Induction Program of Beginning Teachers (IPBT).

The National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) of the Department of Education (DepEd) convened an alignment meeting with RITQ on 26 April 2024 to discuss the implementation of the Induction Program for Beginning Teachers (IPBT).

In 2021, RCTQ helped develop DepEd’s Enhanced Teacher Induction Program (TIP) coursebooks which were piloted in various regions. With assistance from RITQ and survey data from its pilot implementation, NEAP intends to refine the coursebooks and review the implementation guidelines to make them more doable and meaningful for newly hired teachers who come with different educational backgrounds and experiences.

The meeting sought to align project objectives and proposed deliverables, utilizing available program data and document analysis of existing guidelines and tools, vis-a-vis NEAP’s learning and development (L&D) and profesional development frameworks currently being developed with RITQ.

RITQ is helping refine the induction program, which involves aligning its objectives with DepEd’s core values to ensure seamless integration into the work environment for newly hired teachers. The program is designed to be completed by beginning teachers within one year of their recruitment.

The meeting was attended by DepEd NEAP led by Director IV Dr. Jennifer E. Lopez, DepEd Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development (BHROD), and RITQ led by senior program manager Dr. Maria Teresa Manicio.

“RITQ’s involvement in the implementation of the program adds value to the process by providing research-based insights, expertise in teacher quality, and data-driven recommendations,” Dr. Manicio said.

Dr. Manicio led discussions on effective teacher induction program characteristics vis-a-vis the current IPBT design.

Dr. Lopez shared insights into professional support and networking practices observed in Singapore particularly on masterclass and more experiential learning components. She encouraged the team to consider these practices for implementation.

The IPBT provides structured professional development opportunities for newly hired DepEd teachers, helping them transition smoothly into their roles and develop the necessary skills and competencies to excel in teaching. The program also offers guidance and support, allowing beginning teachers to receive valuable feedback, advice, and encouragement from experienced educators.
