Newly-hired public school teachers may now access the hard copies of the RCTQ-assisted Enhanced Teacher Induction Program (TIP) coursebooks which have been distributed to all Department of Education regional offices. The materials have also been uploaded to the DepEd’s Professional Development Learning Management System and are accessible to those who have DepEd email accounts and National Educators Academy of the Philippines-issued SIM cards beginning this month.

The rollout of the modules followed the orientation on the utilization of TIP enhanced coursebooks which was held virtually on 24 November 2021, attended by school leaders across all regions.

At the said orientation, (NEAP) Director John Siena said that TIP is one of the critical initiatives of NEAP for  new teachers because it forms “part of the continuum of the professional development of teachers.”

Teacher training that happens after five years, he said, may have a minimal effect compared to the first five years. He said that the first five years “is where the motivation to stay as a teacher is developed.”

RCTQ Director Dr. Gina Gonong affirmed Director Siena’s statement and shared how the enhanced TIP can help new teachers in DepEd “transition into their new roles, apply theories in practice, demonstrate good or quality teaching based on the professional teacher standards, and help them progress in their careers.”

“For new teachers to be successful, a well designed program is essential but not sufficient. There need to be materials that teachers can use such as these coursebooks. There also need to be highly proficient fficient teachers to mentor, to guide, to give advice to, or help beginning teachers problem-solve,” Dr. Gonong said, adding that teachers who are better prepared are likely to stay in the teaching profession,” Dr. Gonong added.

RCTQ has been assisting NEAP and the Teacher Education Council (TEC) in developing induction courses for newly-hired teachers as part of the features of the enhanced TIP since 2020. RCTQ’s involvement in the TIP work has been part of its role as provider of technical assistance for the implementation of NEAP transformation as stipulated in DepEd Order No. 11, s. 2019.
