Classroom observation at the Rizal Elementary School in Baguio City

RCTQ traveled to three regions to assess the effectiveness of the pilot implementation of the MATATAG curriculum, particularly in the utilization of developed Learning Resource Packages (LRPs) and the conduct of Learning Action Cell (LAC) or collaborative expertise sessions.

Covering multiple regions, RCTQ’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities took place in the following areas:

Cordillera Administrative Region (March 5-8, 2024):

  • Rizal Elementary School
  • Lam-ayan Integrated School
  • Doña Aurora National High School
  • Calafug Elementary School
  • Bineng National High School

Region I (March 12-15, 2024):

  • Acao Elementary School
  • Caba Central Elementary School
  • Cabaruan Integrated School
  • Casacristo National High School
  • Don Rufino Olarte Memorial National High School

Region II (March 19-22, 2024):

  • Cauayan North Central School
  • General Emilio Aguinaldo National High School
  • Dingading Integrated School
  • Lanna National High School
  • Villa Teresita Primary School

During these visits, RCTQ conducted

  • classroom observation where notable teacher practices related to LRPs were observed, recorded, and validated through interviews;
  • focus group discussions where teachers’ preparations, practices, and challenges related to the pilot implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum were documented;
  • interviews with school heads where they shared their preparations, practices, and challenges encountered in implementing the MATATAG curriculum; and
  • learning action cell/collaborative expertise session observation where discussions related to MATATAG lessons, curriculum implementation areas, and collaborative dynamics among participants were observed.

Through these visits, RCTQ found best practices, challenges, and areas for improvement to enhance the curriculum’s impact on teaching and learning across the regions.

To complete the 35 pilot schools of MATATAG Curriculum, the team is set to visit the following Region VII, Region XII and CARAGA region in April 2024.
