RCTQ senior program manager Dr. Maria Teresa Manicio provides updates on RCTQ’s work for the MATATAG curriculum, drawing on data from fieldwork activities.

RCTQ organized a writeshop on 7-10 March 2024 aimed at developing learning resource packages (LRPs) for the pilot implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum. The event gathered educators and experts to draft LRPs for various learning areas and grade levels, providing valuable resources for teachers in MATATAG pilot implementing schools.

The primary objective of the writeshop was to produce LRPs, including scope and sequence, lesson exemplars, and student worksheets, for Grades 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10, excluding TLE Grades 9 and 10, and Quarter 1 of Grades 4 and 7. The event also sought to finalize writer and validator assignments for each LRP and draft Weeks 1 to 4 of Quarter 1 for all learning areas.

Kicking off the event, Dr. Maria Teresa Manicio, RCTQ senior program manager, provided updates on the project, drawing on data from fieldwork activities. She highlighted both best practices and challenges encountered in utilizing LRPs developed by higher education institutions. Following this, Dr. Manicio led a review of the MATATAG lesson exemplar design, showcasing examples from lesson exemplars used in classroom observations.

Writeshop participants

The writeshop featured team meetings facilitated by learning area coordinators, during which writers drafted and validators evaluated the scope and sequence for different quarters across various grade levels.

Key outputs of the writeshop included the scope and sequence for all learning areas and grade levels (excluding Quarter 1 of Grades 4 and 7, and TLE Grades 9 and 10), as well as drafts of lesson exemplars and student worksheets for Quarter 1 of all learning areas (except Grade 4 and Grade 7).

Joining the RCTQ team at the activity were faculty members from the Philippine Normal University (PNU), writers, learning area coordinators from partner higher education institutions, and writers from the Department of Education (DepEd).

In 2023, DepEd partnered with RCTQ to enhance teacher support systems for the MATATAG Curriculum, which Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte launched early last year to guide the new direction of DepEd and stakeholders in solving basic education challenges.
