Philippine Normal University (PNU) Vice President for Academics and RCTQ Director Dr. Jennie Jocson joined other academics and educational leaders in forming the Standing Committee for Higher Education, and Teacher Education and Development of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2). She was appointed by the Commission in March 2023.

Dr. Jocson joined Fr. Johnny Go, SJ (Ateneo de Manila University), Dr. Dina Ocampo (University of the Philippines Diliman) and Dr. Carmela Oracion (Ateneo de Manila University) as committee members for teacher education. The other members of committee who focus on higher education are Dr. Tirso Ronquillo (Batangas State University), Dr. Elyxzur Ramos (University of Makati), Dr. Reynaldo Vea (Mapúa Institute of Technology), Fr. John Christian Young (Father Saturnino Urios University), and lawyer Alexander Cabrera.

Designated as commissioners for the higher education/teacher education standing committee are Senator Francis Escudero and Congressman Mark Go. Members of the Advisory Council for this standing committee are Dr. Cynthia Rose Bautista (UP Diliman) and Dr. Chito Salazar (PHINMA).

EDCOM 2 is a national commission mandated to undertake a comprehensive national assessment and evaluation of the performance of the Philippine education sector. Dr. Jocson’s committee will assist the Commission in tackling issues and solutions related to higher education and teacher education and training.

The other EDCOM 2 standing committees are for Early Childhood Education and Development and Basic Education, and for Technical Vocational Education and Training and Lifelong Learning. (RCTQ Comms)
