PNU, RCTQ featured on DepEd’s ‘Handang Isip, Handa Bukas’ media briefing
RCTQ Director Dr. Gina Gonong joined Philippine Normal University President Dr. Bert Tuga at the Handang
Isip, Handa Bukas (HIHB) virtual press conference organized by the Department of Education (DepEd) on 14 September 2020 and streamed live via the DepEd Facebook.
Dr. Tuga and Dr. Gonong shared PNU’s and RCTQ’s respective partnerships with DepEd that support learners and teachers.
Dr. Gonong talked about RCTQ’s work on the the standards-based career progression and performance management system, which helps teachers adapt and respond more quickly to circumstances associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation phase of the transformation of the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP), including the development of the Teacher Induction Program (TIP) for new teachers.
Dr. Gonong said the Teacher Induction Program (TIP) uses various learning modalities for different school typologies (among other enhancements) and that it is designed to be responsive to COVID-19 crisis situation. Once implemented by DepEd, the TIP will benefit 11,000 newly-hired teachers this year, she said.
She also touched on the alignment of HR systems for teachers and school leaders with the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) and the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH), and the Philippine Professional Standards for Supervisors (PPSS).
Dr. Tuga, on the other hand, talked about the PNU’s work with NEAP in assisting teachers and school leaders show evidence of attainment of their current career stages and further support them to move to the next career stages.
The HIHB press conference is a weekly forum that discusses preparations for the opening of classes on 5 October 2020.
