Dr. Pegg speaks on operationalizing quality education at PNU-CHED international confab

Dr. John Pegg—Director of the University of New England SiMERR National Research Centre in Australia and co-director of RCTQ—spoke on “making operations clear, straightforward, and efficient: a ‘systems thinking’ approach” at the International Conference on Quality Education in the New Normal on 18 November 2022 in Manila.
In his talk, Dr. Pegg stressed that while much policy and planning work has been done through DepEd orders and memorandums, RCTQ research reports and government legislations, there is still a pressing need to operationalize quality education in the Philippines.
“To achieve this goal, the Philippines needs to build on the significant policy gains made in the last decade by mobilizing all aspects of education policy into a coherent nationally focused entity. It is time for a national recovery implementation learning plan for students, teachers and school leaders built around a ‘systems-thinking’ approach,” Dr. Pegg said in his talk.
Elaborating on the systems -thinking approach as a methodology, he talked about the need for a national recovery implementation learning plan that factors in teacher preparation, entry into the profession, and professional learning.
“Quality teachers and school leaders are the child’s best chance for real learning opportunities to happen to them. Let us make it most likely to occur in the Philippines through sound policy developments offered through insightful, cohesively-linked systems thinking operational approaches,” Dr. Pegg said.
