RCTQ assists PNU on customized PD programs for DepEd
RCTQ is assisting the Philippine Normal University (PNU) in its partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) – National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) on upskilling and reskilling teachers and school leaders through customized academic programs.
DepEd and PNU collaborate for a project called Linking Standards and Quality Practice (LisQuP) which aims to address the urgent need of DepEd in standardizing the professional development of teachers and school administrators through a progressive and standards-based curriculum. It is a two-year partnership which will assist DepEd in “developing and delivering high caliber, differentiated, and standards-based professional development programs focused on making quality practice common practice among education personnel.”
At the LiSQuP first general assembly and workshop for committee members and module writers on 3 March 2021, RCTQ provided an overview on understanding professional standards as a framework for quality. RCTQ Director Dr. Gina Gonong was joined by RCTQ project officers Ms. Ma. Izella Lampos and Ms. Lizette Anne Carpio in orienting module writers on the expectations of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH), and the Philippine Professional Standards for Supervisors (PPSS).
PNU Vice President for Academics Dr. Jennie Jocson said the project “reflects the PNU’s mandate as the National Center for Teacher Education (NCTE) as it provides technical assistance to DepEd and, if needed, help in reporting to Congress the status of the education system based on data gathered through the project.”
LiSQuP consists of academic course work, job-embedded learning (JEL) activities and practice, and specialized and focused training, and will be delivered through the PNU’s flexible learning delivery (FLD).
Up to 2,820 DepEd teachers, school leaders and education personnel are targeted to take up any of PNU’s 12 master’s programs, eight (8) doctorate programs, and two (2) executive programs through the LiSQuP project.
RCTQ is assisting PNU in terms of ensuring quality assurance on the alignment of the program with the professional standards. RCTQ’s work is aligned with its role identified in DepEd Order No. 11, series of 2019 or the Implementation of the NEAP Transformation, which named the Center as the provider of technical assistance.
