RCTQ continued to assist the Teacher Education Council (TEC) in rolling out a coaching and mentoring module designed for use by cooperating teachers (CT) for education interns with two separate events this month of November for the Visayas and Mindanao clusters.

The Visayas rollout activity was held in Bacolod City on 6-7 November 2019 while the Mindanao cluster had it on 20-21 November 2019 in Zamboanga City.

The rollout, which followed the development of the module by TEC and RCTQ, has been designed to guide cooperating teachers (CT) as they assist education students during their internships.

The module titled Supporting Beginning Teachers: Coaching and Mentoring Module for Cooperating Teachers has been shared to DepEd key persons for pre-service internship: division focal persons, school heads, and cooperating teachers. RCTQ emphasized to participants the need for a DepEd initiative to raise the quality of coaching and mentoring for the pre-service teachers from Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) taking internship in DepEd schools.

Rollout workshops also oriented CTs on the new directions of the experiential learning component of the teacher education curriculum, and provided them with a Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST)-based framework to guide their personal mentoring and coaching practices. They were also acquainted on the use of the classroom observation tool (COT) and other tools covering the beginning teacher indicators in the PPST.

Last month, RCTQ and TEC rolled out the module in Lingayen, Pangasinan for the Luzon cluster.
