RCTQ met with its teacher education institution (TEI) partners from Mindanao on 19-20 January 2023 in Cotabato City to validate outputs of the three components of its technical assistance project for Teacher Development in Higher Education in the BARMM under the Pathways Program.

Led by its director, Dr. Jennie Jocson, the RCTQ team first gave participants a refresher on the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) and the Curriculum Quality Audit (CQA) process before breaking up into their respective components, i) CQA, ii) development of a Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET) review program, and iii) review of existing TEI majors/subjects on early childhood education.

RCTQ formed a consortium with the Mindanao State University (MSU), Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), and the Cotabato State University (CSU)—the host of this activity—to implement the project.

Participants were teacher educators from MSU, WMSU and CSU; select Islamic Studies and Arabic Language (ISAL) teachers; learning facilitators of the Abot-Kaalaman sa Pamilyang (AKAP)- Bangsamoro Program; and a hundred CSU pre-service teachers who would be taking up the mock LET test as part of project’s second component.

RCTQ Senior Program Manager and project lead Dr. Levi Elipane facilitated the refresher session on the PPST while Dr. Byron Go-Silk facilitated the session on the CQA. The validation activities were facilitated by Dr. Elipane, RCTQ Project Officer Mikkey Tuazon, and RCTQ Technical Assistant Lara Recto.

The RCTQ team was welcomed by CSU President Dr. Sema G. Dilna, CSU Dean of College of Education Dr. Maripaz Abas, CSU Director for Research Dr. Arbaya Boquia, and CSU Director for Instruction Dr. Ombra Imam.

The project aims to help improve the quality of teacher education in the BARMM by addressing the findings and recommendations of the RCTQ-led mapping study of TEIs serving the BARMM conducted from 2020 to 2021. (RCTQ Comms)
