Dr. Jennie V. Jocson, RCTQ Deputy Director, introduced the projects for pre-service teacher education namely: Development of a Joint DepED-CHED Policy on the PPST-Based Pre-service Teachers` Field Study and Teaching Internship Experiences and the Development of PPST-based Prototype Syllabi on Priority Areas in Pre-Service Teacher Education.

Vice presidents, deans, and other representatives of the 74 Centers of Excellence (COEs) and Centers of Development (CODs) in Teacher Education reviewed the draft Pre-service Teachers Experiential Learning Framework and Manual and the proposed Prototype Syllabi course descriptions and outcomes for Professional Education courses.

Led by the Teacher Education Council (TEC), the review was held during the 6th Annual Convention of Centers of Excellence and Centers of Development in Teacher Education last December 5-7, 2018 at Tagaytay Haven Hotel. The convention, with the theme “Reforms, Priorities and Actions towards Quality Teacher Education”, provided an avenue for members of TEC to learn ways by which COEs and CODs can respond to the reform initiatives on teacher education.

The Pre-Service Teachers Experiential Learning (PSTEL) refers to the training that pre-service teachers under a teacher education curriculum should undergo, covering how the Professional Education Courses (PEC), Field Study, and Teaching Internship courses build upon each other towards a developmental and formative training.

Meanwhile, the Prototype Syllabi aims to produce pre-service teacher education curriculum exemplar to further align the current teacher education curriculum with the provisions stated in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST).

The projects focus on reforms in pre-service teacher education, supporting the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd) in ensuring that the pre-service students meet the standards set by the PPST.
