DepEd XI RD Allan Farnazo and Dr. Gina Gonong at the Virtual Regional Capacity Building on How to Become an Exemplary Awardee on 26 April 2021.

RCTQ Director Dr. Gina Gonong provided updates on the three sets of professional standards as she talked at the opening of the two-day virtual capacity building for education leaders in DepEd Region XI on 26 April 2021.

The Virtual Regional Capacity Building on How to Become an Exemplary Awardee capacitated various heads of regional and division offices, supervisors, and school heads on how to guide teaching and non-teaching staff in achieving excellent performance, and in preparing them for possible recognition by various DepEd and external award-giving bodies.

“The reason we are conducting this activity in DepEd XI is because we want to be aggressive in  recognizing all our teachers and personnel,” said DepEd Region XI Regional Director Dr. Allan Farnazo.

Dr. Gonong touched on the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH) and the Philippine Professional Standards for Supervisors (PPSS) and how they are embedded in DepEd’s Results-based Performance Management System (RPMS) and other HR systems. She discussed how the three sets of standards can guide teachers and school leaders in improving their practice at every stage of their careers, towards excellence.

“We need to support our teaches so we can improve our learning outcomes, and consequently improve our education system. But to support our teachers, we need to support our school leaders,” Dr. Gonong said as she explained the link of the three sets of standards.

Dr. Gonong also provided updates on the ongoing policy development in DepEd with technical assistance from RCTQ related to the assessors’ programs for teachers and school leaders, career stage recognition, and legislative bills that seek to strengthen the Teacher Education Council.

The activity was organized by a team from the DepEd XI Human Resource Development Division (HRDD) led by Dr Lorna Mapinongos and Ms. Florence Victoria.
