UNE-SiMERR Director receives honorary doctorate from PNU
Professor John Pegg, Director of the SiMERR National Research Centre* at the University of New England Australia and Co-Director of RCTQ, received an honorary degree of Doctor of Education from the Philippine Normal University (PNU) on 2 September 2015.
The conferment of the degree was in recognition of Professor Pegg’s exceptional achievements in the fields of education and research across the Australian continent and overseas including the Philippines.
In accepting his award, Dr. Pegg expressed gratitude to the PNU community for the great honor. He also thanked his colleagues and partners at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Department of Education (DepED), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Cardno, and the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), among others, for their substantial contributions to his achievements.
Those who attended the event were Dir. Maria Lourdes Pantoja, Director of DepED’s Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development; Ms. Lea Neri, Senior Program Manager of DFAT; Dr. Greg Ryan-Gadsden, Team Leader of Basic Education Sector Transformation (BEST) Program; and Dr. Esther Care, Director of Assessment, Curriculum and Technology Research Center (ACTRC)–University of Melbourne.
Members of the PNU Board of Regents including Dr. Ester B. Ogena, PNU President; Dr. Melito Salzar Jr.; and CHED Commissioner Minella Alarcon representing CHED Chair Patricia Licuanan awarded the degree. Also present in the occasion were PNU faculty, staff and students; RCTQ staff including Dr. Marilyn U. Balagtas, Dr. Gina O. Gonong, and Dr. Jennie V. Jocson; and Dr. Pegg’s family.
Dr. Pegg is also Professor of Education at the University of New England.
