In view of the major transformation that the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) will soon undergo, a training-workshop on communication planning was held on November 7 in Marikina City to help the staff of NEAP as well as those from the Human Resources Development Division (HRDD) in the regions in developing their respective key messages, and the appropriate strategies for communicating them to their identified audiences.

Organized by NEAP Central Office, the day-long training for some 30 participants was facilitated by Australia-educated communications specialist and RCTQ Senior Manager for Communications and Advocacy Mr. Arvin Yana. He made the participants experience communication problem assessment, and guided them to discern on which organizational challenges should be best addressed by communication interventions.

“Communicating the NEAP transformation and changing behaviors involve a protracted process”, said Mr. Yana. “But this training is a very good start, especially for those who have zero or limited background in development communication, in understanding the value of communication interventions in the context of a major organizational change.”

NEAP Director Mr. John Arnold Siena said “the outputs from this workshop will help form a NEAP brand, and will be a useful reference for how NEAP and its regional counterparts will deal with their clients when the transformation happens.”

NEAP staff and HRDDs in the regions are expected to lead in information dissemination, along with their respective public affairs offices, once the NEAP transition kicks off.

Participants were grouped into Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and NEAP Central Office as they crafted their respective communication plans.

The training complemented another one-day activity, which was held a day before, which taught the same participants on change management concepts and tools; and allowed them to apply those concepts in mapping out NEAP transformation change management plans, including the creation of Stakeholder Engagement Plans, Sponsorship Checklist, Learning and Development Management Plans, and Resistance Management Plans.

Present at the workshop were representatives from the NEAP Central Office including Dir. Siena and NEAP Professional Development Division (PDD) chief Mr. Leonardo Nuestro, Jr.,  and the chiefs and personnel of HRDDs from 16 DepEd regions. Former Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development (BHROD) director  Ms. Ma. Lourdes Pantoja was also present to share her organizational communication experience during the workshop.
