Education supervisors from various regional divisions of the Department of Education (DepEd) National Capital Region (NCR) have deepened their understanding of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) after a one-day orientation on September 19, 2019 at the DepEd NCR office.

RCTQ Director Dr. Gina Gonong was invited as resource person where she guided participants to identify programs, projects and activities which were aligned with the standards. Participants represented the region’s eight functional divisions: Human Resource Development Division (HRDD), Policy, Planning, and Research Division (PPRD), Quality Assurance Division (QAD), Field Technical Assistance Division (FTAD), Education Support Services Division (ESSD), Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD), Budget and Finance Division, and Administrative Division.

“The orientation was very relevant to us because it raised the awareness of the key people in DepEd-NCR about the PPST and it helped the participants realize their stake in teachers’ performance through the lens of the PPST,” said Ms. Jennifer Vivas, DepEd-NCR Education Program Supervisor.

“Because the group has acquired a deeper appreciation of the PPST from this orientation, the ‘PPST Ambassadors’ in DepEd NCR have also increased in number,” she added.

During the latter part of the orientation, a workshop was held requesting each functional division to choose three strands and indicators from the PPST and think of programs or advocacies for them. Ms. Vivas presented the output of HRDD wherein “we came up with a handful of intervention programs to address the perceived competency gaps of teachers through varied learning and development (L&D) modalities.”

The draft Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH) and Philippine Professional Standards for Supervisors (PPSS) were also introduced to the participants as part of the program.
