DepEd regions endorse draft standards for school heads, supervisors
DepEd regional offices—represented by regional directors and regional officials—collectively endorsed the draft Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH) and the draft Philippine Professional Standards for Supervisors (PPSS) for policy adoption last 24 September at a meeting in Pasay City.
DepEd Undersecretary Jesus Lorenzo Mateo presided over the meeting, and promised to bring the regions’ endorsement to the DepEd Executive Committee, the highest governing body of the Department.
At the said meeting, the Technical Working Groups (TWGs) for PPSSH and PPSS presented the standards with the Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development (BHROD) and RCTQ to the regional officials to provide them with a detailed orientation and an opportunity to comment, before they articulated their endorsement of the two draft documents.
The presentation to the regional officials happened a week after the finalization workshop of the draft standards where school heads and teacher organizations were invited to provide their comments.
RCTQ and BHROD went around the 17 DepEd regions in July and August 2019 to validate the draft standards with various school heads and supervisors.
The draft PPSSH builds on the existing National Competency-Based Standards for School Head (NCBSSH) which needed to be reviewed and enhanced to address career progression and embed principles of the 21st Century thinking among school leaders. The draft PPSS, on the other hand, is a brand new set of professional standards designed for education supervisors. Both would complement the domains, strands and indicators outlined in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST).
Joining Undersecretary Mateo at the presentation was National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) Director Mr. John Arnold Siena, BHROD OIC Director Ms. Jennifer Lopez, and RCTQ Director and Project Leader Dr. Gina Gonong.
